Janet Chung, PhD
Senior Scientist
Translational Research
Bluebird Bio
Dr. Janet Chung received her BS degree in Chemical Engineering from University of Texas at Austin. She then followed her passion for drug discovery to pursue a PhD degree in Chemistry and Chemical Biology at University of California, San Francisco, in the lab of Dr. Thomas James. As a structural biologist, Janet utilized nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy to study the interaction of HIV RNA with small molecules, identifying agents targeting HIV genomic RNA dimer maturation as novel HIV therapeutics. Janet was fascinated by the promise of gene therapy during her PhD studies and joined the lab of Dr. John Rossi at City of Hope as a research fellow to continue the search for HIV cure. Currently, Janet is the group leader of the cell line development team at Bluebird Bio to address the challenge of scaling LVV manufacturing capability for gene therapy.
